Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Council of the United Kingdom

The objectives of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Council

  • To improve the qualities of the breed
  • To protect the welfare of the breed
  • To actively champion any cause agreed by the Breed Council

The Breed Council originated from the Breed Liaison which was established by the clubs to successfully host the World Congress in the United Kingdom in 1992. The Breed Council meets every six months in April and November with the AGM being held prior to the meeting in April and is represented by delegates (usually Committee Members) of all four Clubs.

The Breed Council is funded by contributions from all four clubs. It provides a conduit to express concerns and ideas which are put forward by clubs. All clubs can put forward items for the agenda to raise awareness of a particular concern and where a joint approach would be advantageous.

The Breed Council is funded by the breed clubs and provides the material used at Discover Dogs and co-ordinates the people who work on the stand.

The Health Co-ordinator and the Breed Liaison nominee to the Kennel Club are usually present and if necessary items of major importance will be put to the Kennel Club. One of the major successes in recent times was when the Kennel Club agreed to register JME results on the Kennel Club database.

Currently the Council is discussing providing a health database where all Ridgeback owners can input their details and their dog’s health status in order that the clubs can more easily monitor our breed’s health.

The new Judging system is also discussed and the Breed Education Co-ordinator is usually present to keep the clubs up to date on recent developments.

Should a club member wish to put an item on the agenda they should put it to their club in the first instance where it will be put on the agenda of the club’s committee meeting and if deemed appropriate will then be put forward by the club to the council.
